| This paper initiates a double decomposition model of rural-urban income gap and its causes on the basis of related indicators of two dimensions, that is, source constitution and gap motivation, which is tested by using data from 1995 to 2011 in China. The results show that the primary cause for driving huge gaps between Chinese urban and rural residents per capita incomes and their expansion is the differences of output distribution rate, and both the expansion of differences between urban and rural pension transfer payments and the accelerated migration of the rural “three high” employment population to urban are two amplifiers, and the third factor of too big gaps between urban and rural residents per capita incomes is the differences of productivity whose share of contribution is in a rapid reduction trend. |
